Women in Design: Leading with Intent and Integrity
Join AIGA Chicago on International Women’s Day as we launch an initiative focused on Women, Leadership and Design. Susan Bennett, Partner and Executive Creative Director at Simple Truth will lead a discussion with two accomplished, fabulous and fierce women in design. Nikki Juen is an artist, designer and educator interested in the spaces where these practices overlap. Tereasa Surratt is a creative director, entrepreneur and author dedicated to a day job at Ogilvy, an after hours gig as owner of Camp Wandawega and around the clock for her 6 year old. They will share stories, discuss opportunity, leadership, office culture and forging your own path.

Susan Bennett, Moderator
Partner and Executive Creative Director at Simple Truth
Susan is currently a partner in, and executive creative director of, Simple Truth. She has built a career of designing solutions for clients from Fortune 100 to grassroots nonprofits. She leads with intuition and creative spark, and she challenges all to be risk-takers who boldly question the status quo. Susan has over 25 years of communication design experience. Her career has led her to some of the most acclaimed design firms in the industry, and she has been recognized for excellence by the American Institute for Graphic Arts, and Print and Communications Arts magazines. Outside of Simple Truth, Susan has a fine art practice working in porcelain, wood, ink and found objects. She’s married, is the proud mother of a teenaged daughter and son, and is perpetually amused by her small flock of chickens.

Nikki Juen
Artist, Designer and Educator
Nikki Juen is an artist, designer and educator interested in the spaces where these practices overlap. A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design’s Graphic Design Department, she is a lecturer and critic in the Division of Experimental and Foundation Studies, also at RISD.

As a founding faculty member of the MFA in Graphic Design at Vermont College of Fine Arts her research focuses on the body as media as well as the contemplative mind in higher education. Her classes and workshops explore the development of the individual through the cultural roles of art and design in society.
