AIGA Chicago + Career Center at Columbia College Chicago presents Virtual Test Flight: Portfolio Review for Designers

Take your portfolio for a test flight. Gather your work and VIRTUALLY join us for the 2020 student portfolio review, presented in partnership with the Career Center at Columbia College Chicago. Some of Chicago’s best and brightest professionals will provide feedback on your in-progress design work and help you sharpen up your presentation skills before you get in front of a recruiter for your dream job.

Event Details

  • On April 24th, AIGA Chicago will email registered participants with a Zoom link to participate in the event.
  • On April 25th at 2:00 pm Log into Zoom through the link sent to you on April 24th.
  • 2:00 pm: Welcome and Instructions - Use raise hands (via Zoom Raise Hand) when ready for review
  • Participants will be assigned to a Zoom breakout room with a reviewer.
  • Reviews will be one-to-one and 15 minutes each
  • Use the share screen feature in zoom to present up to four digital in-progress projects. Suggested formats, PDF case studies, website, Behance.
  • This event will allow registration that is in line with available reviewers. If registration is closed, check back for possible openings. The event is open to all design students and recent grads.

2:00 - 2:15 Participants Welcome & Instruction Presentation

  • Participant uses raise hands (via Zoom Raise Hand) when ready for review.
  • Participant scheduled to the next available reviewer and session as they raise hands.
  • Participant then invited to the breakout room with reviewer (Zoom)

2:15 - 2:30 Session 1

  • Host will notify all breakout rooms of start/end times (Zoom broadcast message to rooms)
  • At the end of the session participants go back to main room, reviewers stay in breakout room.

2:30 - 2:35 Break

  • Reviewers & participants take a break
  • Participant uses raise hands (via Zoom Raise Hand) when ready for review.
  • Participant scheduled to the next available reviewer and session as they raise hands.
  • Participant then invited to the breakout room with reviewer (Zoom)

2:35 - 2:50 Session 2

  • Host will notify all breakout rooms of start/end times (Zoom broadcast message to rooms)
  • At the end of the session participants go back to main room, reviewers stay in breakout room.

2:50 - 2:55 Break

  • Reviewers & participants take a break
  • Participant uses raise hands (via Zoom Raise Hand) when ready for review.
  • Participant scheduled to the next available reviewer and session as they raise hands.
  • Participant then invited to the breakout room with reviewer (Zoom)

2:55 - 3:10 Session 3

  • Host will notify all breakout rooms of start/end times (Zoom broadcast message to rooms)
  • At the end of the session participants go back to main room, reviewers stay in breakout room.

3:10 - 3:15 Break

  • Reviewers & participants take a break

3:15 - 3:30 Session 4

3:35 - 3:50 Session 5

  • Host will notify all breakout rooms of start/end times (Zoom broadcast message to rooms)
  • At the end of the session participants go back to main room, reviewers stay in breakout room.

3:50 - 4:00 Closing & Thank you

Notes on using Zoom

  • No need to download Zoom (on desktop) or even sign up for an account (Zoom web client)
  • Internal computer mic is acceptable. External mic optional.
  • Computer webcam or external webcam only for face-to-face review.
