The Business of Freelancing

Successful freelancers are more than creative—they’re full-fledged businesses. Between managing finances, growing client relationships and everything in between, sometimes it can be hard to find time for the actual creative work.

Event Speakers:
Martin Kamenski is the President and Founder of Rockstar CPA, Chicago’s premier creative and entertainment industry accounting firm. With a background in small businesses and nearly a decade of experience running his own practice, Martin has carefully crafted a way to talk about business and taxes with creative individuals. His upcoming book, Minding Your Business, will be on the shelves January of 2013.

Chris Johnson is the founder and owner of the Johnsonese Brokerage. Johnson is a licensed insurance producer with a background in corporate finance, business planning, technology commercialization, project management and international business. Johnson focuses on insuring small business clients. He founded the Johnsonese Brokerage in 2007.

Michael Komessar is a partner at the law firm of Komessar and Associates, LLC, where he specializes in the area of entertainment law. Michael studied film and journalism at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and upon graduation worked as an associate producer at Fox Sorts Net Chicago. In 2007 Michael graduated from the John Marshall Law School with the degree of Juris Doctorate and a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law. In addition to working with local artists, record labels, theaters, promoters, and producers, Michael has served as an instructor at Music Industry Workshop's music business program, and sits on the board for multiple non-for-profit arts based organizations.
