Design for Good: Breakfast Club with Growing Home and NowPow

The Design for Good Breakfast Club series is a casual monthly get together over coffee to connect designers who are interested in using design for good, to meet one another, and highlight the needs of social initiatives. Our goal is to support local, social initiatives and connect them with designers who are interested in helping them grow.

This March we welcome Kristin Miondonski, Director of Community Engagement and Vicky Nurre, Director of Development at Growing Home as well as Chelsea Badiola, New Product Development Associate of NowPow.

Growing Home has a vision of a world of healthy people and communities. Everyone deserves to have a good job, and everyone deserves to eat well. That’s why Growing Home has been helping people find meaningful careers through skills learned while farming since 2002. Growing Home is Chicago’s leading expert in farm-based training for people with employment barriers. By providing 25 hours per week of paid on-the-job experience and job-readiness training at our farms, plus the support to conquer issues like criminal records, medical needs, child-care, and housing, we have changed the lives of hundreds of workers, and thousands of their family members.

NowPow, a play on knowledge is power, is a women-owned and led technology company based on Chicago’s south side. The technology empowers care professionals to make highly matched social referrals, communicate with patients and service providers, and track referral outcomes. The multi-sided platform uniquely connects both sides of the referral process—“senders” and “receivers”—to better address patients’ social determinants of health and improve care transitions across networks.
