Design Discourse | The Art of Title Sequences with Sarofsky
Event image

What To Expect

Part 1 | It’s All Part of the Process

Let's look under the hood of a Sarofsky title sequence and see how the sausage is made. We'll show you our entire process from brainstorming to storyboarding, look development to end-stage client tweaks. We'll talk through the rewarding, challenging, and "who knew?" aspects of any title sequence.

Part 2 | Thinking Practically

In a world where endless digital possibilities are at our fingertips, an argument can be made for sometimes working "in-camera" to make your work stand out. Let's put down our wacom pens and blue light filtering lenses and explore how magic can happen off the computer. This presentation will walk through Sarofsky's process of capturing ideas in-camera through title sequences like WeCrashed, Werewolf by Night, and Goosebumps. We'll talk through the journey of trial and (a lot of) errors that are practical effects.

Speakers

Cat McCarthy

Design Lead, Sarosky

Cat has been in the design industry for 10+ years, beginning her career as a print designer in Washington, DC. In her early graphic design days, Cat always felt confined by the print format and was always looking for ways to add motion to her designs (turning conference programs into flipbooks, and always finding excuses to animate her clients’ logos).

After deciding to jump headfirst into motion design, Cat received her master’s degree in Motion Media Design from Savannah College of Art and Design and began working for Sarofsky in 2020. Since then, Cat has led teams for Sarofsky main titles, online video campaigns, and broadcast commercials. Some of her most recent projects include Goosebumps Season 1 and 2 main titles, DirecTV broadcast spots, and ad campaigns for Mountain House and Lubriderm.

Even though Cat shifted her focus from graphic design to motion design, she still sees every project through the lens of a graphic designer. These design sensibilities are at the core of Cat's work.
