An Evening with Erik Spiekermann

Erik is a world renowned designer and founder of MetaDesign in Berlin and FontShop, the first mail-order distributor of digital fonts. He is is currently managing partner and creative director at Edenspiekermann, with offices in Amsterdam, Berlin, Stuttgart and San Francisco.

Among the type faces he has created, FF Meta and ITC Officina stand out as classics. He has also designed countless others for clients such as NOKIA, Bosch and German Railways, and has guided corporate design programs for VW, Bosch, Audi, German Railways, and way-finding projects for Berlin Transit, Düsseldorf Airport.

Erik is Honorary Professor at the University of the Arts in Bremen and in 2003 received the Gerrit Noordzij Award from the Royal Academy in The Hague. In 2006 he was awarded an honorary doctorship from Pasadena Art Center. He was made an Honorary Royal Designer by the RSA in Britain in 2007 and Ambassador for the European Year of Creativity and Innovation by the European Union for 2009. He recently received the 2011 German Design Award for Lifetime Achievement.
