Lecture – 2500 Years of the Western Alphabet

Join Paul Antonio, one of the Crown Office Scribes, for a lecture that will look at the evolution of the Western Alphabet over a two and a half thousand year period. Paul will talk and write in real-time in large scale using 2inch brushes against a wall. This is a fascinating talk and shows an amazing scope of historical forms which will broaden your visual understanding of letters we use today. The lecture will look at the Roman Rustics, Mediaeval Blackletter and Chicano Copperplate. Paul has a broad knowledge base in both the Academic History of the Writing Systems the world over, and a deft practical understanding of calligraphy as a physical form.
