Chicago Design Week 2014

Chicago Design Week 2014
We’ve had some good Chicago Design Weeks over the years, but here’s the deal: if this year’s doesn’t turn out to be the best, it’s definitely going to be in the top four. That’s a promise.

And heads up: it begins tomorrow!

Tuesday, June 10
Adobe Workshop: Photoshop & Enhancements
Join Adobe Community Professional and Certified Instructor Kevin Stohlmeyer as he showcases the latest and greatest Creative Cloud capabilities while demonstrating how Photoshop’s Content-Aware features can help you maximize your image retouching skills. We’ll also take a look at the new 3D printing capabilities in Photoshop and explore a low-cost solution to creating your own 3D printed models. Register now.

Wednesday, June 11
Adobe Workshop: Creative Cloud
It just so happens that the apps in Adobe Creative Cloud offer hundreds of features that aren’t available in CS6. You’re probably not going to see all of them put to work here, but you will definitely get a sense of how these capabilities can streamline your workflow and boost your output on a daily basis. Register now.

This Is Chicago
To be clear, this is the 2014 Annual Meeting. But it’s also a massive poster show, inviting Chicago luminaries, up-and-comers and all-around interesting folks to come up with eye-opening visual answers to the question, “What does design in Chicago mean to you?”‘

Come around, grab some free drinks, eat some cool snacks, exchange pleasantries with a few hundred Chicago designer-types—and buy a raffle ticket (or 20) for a chance to win your favorite poster (or 20). Register now.

Friday, June 13
Creative Mornings with Scott Wilson
Creative Mornings is a free, monthly breakfast lecture series for creative types happening across 70 AIGA chapters worldwide. On this particular week, the Chicago chapter is celebrating the theme “Minimal” with Scott Wilson, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of (you guessed it) MINIMAL, the Chicago-based product development and brand incubation firm. More info.

Named one of the Most Creative People in Business by Fast Company and one of America’s most influential design entrepreneurs, Scott is synonymous with the resurging maker movement and was awarded the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for Product Design.

Chicago Design Museum Opening
On June 13, 2014, the Chicago Design Museum sets down permanent roots in Block37 in the heart of the loop—capping off two summers of successful pop-up exhibitions featuring Marian Bantjes, Ed Fella, Debbie Millman and Wolfgang Weingart.

When the doors open at the new address, museumgoers will be greeted by Starts/Speculations: Graphic Design in Chicago Past and Future, an exhibit exploring the evolution of communication. RSVP now.
