Design Discourse with Nermin Moufti

Walking the Walk: Define Your Values, Design Your Practice

What does it mean to design for change? What does that look like as a practice? In her talk, Nermin will delve into how she continuously crafts a design practice grounded in shared values. She'll walk through the Core Values Canvas and how along with her co-founder at Field of Practice, they've used similar exercises to guide business and creative decisions. She'll share formative projects, and take time and make space to honor the artists, designers, writers, and thinkers that shape her principles and perspectives—all while offering guiding questions for an open discussion around the triumphs and challenges of committing, heart and mind, to an intentional and fulfilling practice. Attendees will leave with the Creative Obituary canvas, a grounding exercise that asks us to consider our own future career retrospective, and the causes and communities we hope to have served in our brief, miraculous time here on earth.

About Nermin

Nermin is a brand alchemist—a designer, creative director, and whole-hearted champion for form, function & care. She is a co-founder of Field of Practice, a woman and member-owned creative studio that designs for change. Born in Syria, raised in Saudi, and bilingual in English and Arabic, she translates thoughtful strategies into holistic, gorgeously realized design systems…and she can do it in two languages. She’s reinvigorated hyperlocal to global brands and led boundary-breaking campaigns for Karam Foundation, Planned Parenthood, Type Directors Club, Onward and StockX. Her work has been recognized by the STA 100, Typewolf, Brand New, Communication Arts, and Fast Company Innovation by Design. She holds a BSc in Visual Communications from the American University of Sharjah (UAE), and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts, Media and Design from OCAD University.
