Call for Nominations: AIGA Chicago Board Members

A Few Things to Know:

  • All submissions will be presented to the nominating committee.
  • Once a nomination (either peer or self-nominated) is submitted, the nominee will be contacted for more information.
  • Each board member is elected to serve and represent the entire membership of the AIGA Chicago to the best of his/her ability, in accordance with the AIGA mission and the description of the board position.
  • The Board of Directors meets monthly to report, determine and vote on chapter activities.
  • AIGA Chicago’s board members are elected by the entire membership and serve staggered three-year terms.

VP of Communications

The VP of Communications shall oversee the application of core messages of the Chapter, acting as a monitor to ensure that all AIGA Chicago communications are accurate, articulate, and consistent with the chapter voice. Supports the mission of AIGA Chicago through the communication of ideas and information relevant to the profession and its constituencies.

Defined Responsibilities:

  • This position works closely with other board members to generate content and communicate to the AIGA Chicago membership. Messages will be communicated through the AIGA Chicago website, all AIGA Chicago print materials, and social media.
  • Works with other VPs and Programming Chair(s) to promote events (oversee, review, and editing all promotional materials for events). This could involve the work of a committee or devising a system to ensure that all materials are checked and edited prior to public dissemination.
  • Engage with Work with Partnerships Chair(s), President(s), and Executive Director to develop sponsor-related communications and maintain sponsor presence on website and on social.
  • This position is also responsible for the recruitment, oversight, and evaluation of editorial committee members, which includes designers, editors, printers, writers, and other relevant contributors.

Commitment:
3-Year Term
Est. Time: 10–15 hours a week

VP of Member Experience

The AIGA Chicago VP of Member experience is responsible for ensuring all current, past and prospective members of the chapter feel welcomed into and supported by the organization.

This individual is the liaison between membership and the board. He or she actively encourages the Chicago design community to be members of the chapter, welcomes new members into the organization, is knowledgeable of key benefits, and manages our annual award and board member nomination process. This individual is invited to build a dedicated committee to support their actions.

VP of Mentorship

The Vice President of Mentorship strategizes the vision of overall mentorship for AIGA Chicago and connects opportunities to begin initial program strategies and implementations for Program Chairs and Committee of Chairs. They work towards developing programs that cater to underserved and under-resourced communities. They maintain visions, budgets, mentor relationships, partnership relationships, volunteer relationships, mentor program strategies, and mentor program opportunities. They work along side Program Chairs and Committee of Chairs to develop and produce quality, profitable, and successful programming for the best return of the program.

Defined Responsibilities:

  • Puts together a team of Program Chairs & Committee Chairs for Mentorship
  • Assumes all other Chair responsibilities if those roles are not filled
  • Maintains & Manages Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities and Time Commitments
  • Interviews & vets potential Volunteers
  • Interviews & vets potential Mentors
  • Onboards all new Volunteers & Mentors
  • Maintains & Manages all Volunteer Agreements & Onboarding Portals
  • Keeps all running programs on budget
  • Maintains & Manages Notion Hub for full team and successor
  • Maintains & Manages Mentorship Google Drive for full team and successor
  • Oversees of all Mentorship Programs
  • Supports any Mentorship Program Management
  • Manages Committee of Chairs and ensures their satisfaction
  • Builds relationships with Committee of Chairs and Committee Members
  • Plans, organizes, and leads Mentorship (all program) Agendas & Meetings (1x per month) & Capture Meeting Notes for documentation
  • Connect with potential Mentor Program Sponsors and Partners on funding and scholarships on a monthly basis
  • Continually supports the evolution of programs after each initiative to better opportunities based on new insights and consistent themes
  • Responds to 2+ emails per week
  • Be the face & voice of The Mentor Program and Events by having an impactful voice on the importance of mentorship at all levels of of their career
  • Be comfortable with public speaking at the mentor events

Mandatory training with Leslie Presto, Co-VP of Mentorship beginning June 2022.


VP of Partnerships

The VP of Partnerships will work alongside VPs and programming chairs to help curate partner-sponsored programming as well as create and maintain partner relationships.

Commitment:
3-Year Term
Est. Time: 5 hours a week

Position Begins: February 2022


Co-VP of Programming

The VP of Programming oversees the planning and implementation of the annual program schedule and calendar, which strategically aligns with AIGA Chicago’s mission and goals that serve chapter members and the community.

Defined Responsibilities:

  • Manage all programming chairs and event chairs.
  • Work with event chairs and board members to oversee the planning and implementation of programming.
  • Develop yearlong programming calendar with Executive Director.
  • Develop programming partnerships with Partnerships Chairs.
  • Foster relationships across the Board with the Programming team to develop meaningful programming.
  • Connect the programming team with potential venues, sponsors, speakers and ideas (making intros and managing resources docs).

Mentorship Chairs (Fall & Spring Program)

Mentorship Program Chairs plan, implement, execute, manage, and promote our annual AIGA Chicago Mentor Programs that reflects our community’s needs that are consistent with AIGA Chicago’s mission. They lead all program operations along with Committee of Chairs and program management. They work alongside VPs & Chairs to develop and produce quality, profitable, and successful programming for the best return of the program. They accommodate program experience for all volunteers involved including committee of chairs, mentors, event speakers, and sponsors in addition to the participant’s program experience.

Defined Responsibilities:

  • Puts together a team of Committee Chairs for The Mentor Program
  • Assumes all other Chair responsibilities if those roles are not filled
  • Plans, organizes, and leads Program Agendas & Meetings (Weekly / Bi-Weekly) & Captures Meeting Notes for documentation
  • Leads Program Management(Spring or Fall)
  • Oversees the entirety of The Mentor Program (Spring or Fall)
  • Leads Program Committee of Chair Management
  • Builds relationships with Committee of Chairs and Committee Members
  • Continually supports the evolution of programs after each initiative to better opportunities based on new insights and consistent themes
  • Responds to 2+ emails per week. This could range in emails related to the program to mentees interested in the program over the course of the year to ensure they know when the next session is coming up
  • Maintains & Organizes Google Drive for full team and successor
  • Be the face & voice of The Mentor Program and Events by having an impactful voice on the importance of mentorship at all levels of of their career
  • Be comfortable with public speaking at the mentor events

Mentorship Chair (1 to 1 New Initiative)

The 1:1 Mentorship Program Chair will plan, implement, execute, manage, and promote our upcoming 1:1 Mentor Program that reflects our community’s needs that are consistent with AIGA Chicago’s mission. They lead all program operations along with a Committee of Chairs and program management. They work alongside VPs & Chairs to develop and produce quality, profitable, and successful programming for the best return of the program. They accommodate program experience for all volunteers involved including committee of chairs, mentors, event speakers, and sponsors in addition to the participant’s program experience.

Defined Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the entirety of the 1:1 Mentor Program
  • Leads Mentorship 1:1 Program Strategy
  • Puts together a team of Committee Chairs for the 1:1 Mentor Program
  • Assumes all other Chair responsibilities if those roles are not filled
  • Plans, organizes, and leads Program Specific Agendas & Meetings (Weekly / Bi-Weekly) & Captures Meeting Notes for documentation
  • Builds relationships with Committee of Chairs and Committee Members
  • Collaborates with Committee of Chairs on Call for new mentors and mentees in strategies, plans, and materials
  • Manages and assists with Graphic Design and Copy development for Social Media pushes
  • Develops and reviews Mentor applications, and selects applicants with committee
  • Connects back with Mentors via email on status and decisions
  • Prepares & Executes Mentor Onboarding via Mentor Portal (Example Tool: Notion)
  • Acts as lead guide for point of contacts (POCs)
  • Helps ensure mentors are set up for success by holding onboarding meetings to set expectations, communicate resources and schedules, and explain tools
  • Provides resources to mentors on best practices for leading a successful mentorship session
  • Assists mentors in their profile outlines and write-ups (including bio + personal links and headshots)
  • Creates, establishes, and manages the mentee and mentor matchmaking portal
  • Set up Mentee Portal + Onboarding (Example Tool: Notion)
  • Update Mentor Portal (Example Tool: Notion)
  • Set up communication channels for mentors and mentee community
  • Leads creation of Eventbrite Event with Exec. Director, Kelly Knaga
  • Be the face & voice of The 1:1 Mentor Program and Events by having an impactful voice on the importance of mentorship at all levels of their career
  • Be comfortable with public speaking at the mentor events
  • Responds to 2+ emails per week. This could range in emails related to the program to mentees interested in the program over the course of the year to ensure they know when the next session is coming up
  • Collaborates with Committee of Chairs on Call for new Sponsors / Partners in strategies, plans, and materials
  • Maintains & Organizes Google Drive for full team and successor
  • Run program retrospectives (ie: in weekly committee meetings) to understand, internally, how the program went overall and to align team on opportunities, expectations, and next steps.Works with Research Chairs to understand feedback post-program
  • Continually supports the evolution of programs after each initiative to better opportunities based on new insights and consistent themes
  • Help communicates program analysis and opportunities of overall last running program session through insights and readout decks

3-Year Term
Est. Time: 8-10 hours a week

Partnerships Chairs

Event chairs help execute an annual program schedule/calendar that reflects activities consistent with AIGAʼs mission and meets the needs of Chapter members.

Defined Responsibilities:

  • Develop and produce quality and profitable programming that speaks to various topics and audiences. See past events in our archive.
  • Work closely with VP of Programming and Programming Co-Chairs to produce successful programs.
  • Assist in securing speakers, sponsors and venues when needed.
  • Work with the Editorial and Social Media chairs to promote chapter event schedules locally, regionally and nationally.

Commitment:
3-Year Term
Est. Time: 4-6 hours weekly with additional time during weeks in which events occur

Programming Chairs

Event chairs help execute an annual program schedule/calendar that reflects activities consistent with AIGAʼs mission and meets the needs of Chapter members.

Defined Responsibilities:

Develop and produce quality and profitable programming that speaks to various topics and audiences. See past events in our archive. Work closely with VP of Programming and Programming Co-Chairs to produce successful programs. Assist in securing speakers, sponsors, and venues when needed. Connect with the Editorial and Social Media chairs to promote chapter event schedules locally, regionally, and nationally.

Commitment:
3-Year Term
Est. Time: 4-6 a month, with ups and down depending on when you / your team is running an event
