Estrada: Design Odyssey
“Design is traveling to an unrevealed destination. Milton Glaser defines the process as moving forward in the fog. A journey throughout the unknown that ceases to be strange for the designer once he gets over and decrypts it.

On that trip, in that adventure, the designer uses every known weapon. One of them consists on drawing. As defined by John Berger, drawing is a search tool, a navigation instrument. A method that reveals us our own ideas. It provides solutions to problems we did not know how to hold.

The exhibition ‘Estrada: Design Odyssey’ takes us, through 50 resolved cases, in a journey which is not always easy. But always exciting in the designer’s job”.
-Manuel Estrada

49 + 1
49 book covers and one logo, the end result with its exploratory drawings. a steerable exhibition not only for designers and design students, because design is no longer an exclusive activity practiced by an elite. It is an activity like writing or photographing, now affordable for many people. Zooming in this process, sharing this experience, has led Manuel Estrada to show his work and explain his process in places such as Helsinki, Berlin, Lisbon, Miami or New York. He has shared workshops at the Alvar Aalto University of Finland, the Berlin University of the Arts and the new School of Visual Arts in New York; the Philadelphia University, the NABA University in Milan and the Beijing University, among others.

Two expert professionals in navigating through the process of design accompany Manuel Estrada on this trip. Professors, both are also graphic professionals. They are the exhibition curators: Sonia Sanchez and Gabriel Martinez.

The Odyssey: Good Design Award
Coinciding with this exhibition at the Harrington College of Art & Design, two of the covers of Manuel Estrada have obtained the ‘Good Design Award 2014’ granted by The Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design. A prize that was born in Chicago in 1950 and that has one of the world’s most recognized design programs.
